“This is Why I am passionate about
Wilderness Early Learning Center”
“This is Why” Campaign! Week 4
One of my favorite quotes is: “Be the change you wish to see in the world”. I see Wilderness as an opportunity to be that change. My hope is that our community will see the value of early childhood education and invest in our vision, not only because it benefits children and families, but because it benefits our community.

I have been an early childhood educator for over twenty four years, and have been a Head Start teacher since 2008. The move to the Wilderness Learning Center from our former Head Start Martin Park location has been exciting for all of us. There’s something about this environment that inspires learning. There’s a very real sense of excitement, collaboration, and exploration.
The beauty of the collaboration between Boulder County Head Start and The Acorn School is that we have two exceptional programs coming together to share ideas. As we grow in this relationship, each program will be enhanced. Now that the school year is underway, we are starting to come together as a community of teachers, and the children are creating a sense of community with each other.
My favorite and perhaps most important part of my job is being an advocate for early childhood education. I’m so proud to work for a center that is committed to the development of the whole child. We’re already reaping the rewards of some of our partnerships. Our Social Emotional Coordinator is working with the Kid Connects and the Boulder Institute for Psychotherapy and Research (BIPR) to identify and provide support services to some of our children, and our collaboration with CU’s Child Learning Center has enabled us to bring some exciting new language and literacy curricula into our classrooms.
I know that when I send my kids to kindergarten that they are ready, not only academically, but in their hearts. They have the confidence and independence to move forward. What we do here is so important in terms of laying the foundation and setting our children and their families up for success.
